Gary Soulages set a new low et and mph record for a Ford Lightning truck at Sacramento Raceway August, 2010, running a 6.97/209 mph, on 10.5 tires. His previous best time was 6.98/201 mph set at California Speedway in 2009.
This is Gary's second year running the tube chassied Lightning. The first shake out runs were in mid April 2008 in Las Vegas.
Gary has been a long time drag racer, starting in his youth. When he purchased his 04 Ford Lightning he had no intentions of racing, but soon the bug to go faster bit him. First he added a pulley, a chip, and more bolt on accessories. Still he wanted to go faster. He asked Dante of Dante Performance to build him a new higher output engine. Gary immediately set out to make his red Lightning the fastest street legal non nitrous Lightning in the country. This was accomplished in 2006 when he ran a 10.01@ 135 mph at Sacramento Raceway. After accomplishing that goal, he wanting to run quicker yet.
Gary approached John Mihovetz of Accufab Racing. John holds many NHRA records in his own Accufab Cougar, and builds the most powerful Ford modular engines in drag racing. John agreed to build Gary a 4.6 twin turbo modular motor with major horse power.
Next needed would be a serious chassis. Johnny Lightning, long time record holder and leader in the Lightning truck field introduced Gary to Tom Brush, of Tom Brush Chassis. Gary shipped the truck to Maryland for Tom to design and build a tubular chassis, cage, fiberglass front end, and doors. When completed the truck was then shipped back to California.
